Special Edition Saturday – June 4, 2016

Flying solo today, but my guest did a pretty good job of co-hosting most of the second hour.

Today, I finally got to to talk to Meathead Goldwyn, proprietor of amazingribs.com and the author of “Meathead: The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling.”  We had a great time and he gave us some great information.  So many grilling and smoking myths getting busted by Meathead, it’s almost impossible to keep up.

I have long relied on amazingribs.com, ever since I got my first smoker years ago. Fantastic resource with great information, great recipes and great advice.

So whether your a novice who wants to get started or someone who has been grilling and smoking for years, there is definitely something in Meathead’s book for you.

Oh, and MJ told us how to make infused vodkas.  Which was nice.

We had a guest scheduled, but life intruded, so we had to make do on our own. But we’re just that good and we had one of our best shows ever.

Special Edition Saturday – February 20, 2016

Our guest on today’s show is Corey Shaker of the Shaker Auto Group, to discuss the proposed legislation that would allow Tesla to sell their cars without having to go through dealerships.  Once again, the government tries to pick winners and losers, as opposed to simply allowing for a level playing field and letting the free market work.

Ben and Steve also discuss the recent controversy around the FBI’s request to Apple to have them remove some of the security tools in place on the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters.  Complicated case.

This week’s drink:  The El Diablo

1.5 oz Tequila
.5 oz creme de cassis
Ginger beer

Build in a cocktail glass. No shaky-shaky.

Talk of the Town – September 4, 2015

I sat in again for the vacationing Larry Rifkin and once again, had a really great show with great guests.  CT State Senator Joe Markley sat in with me for an hour discussing the state of the state.  I was then joined by Member of the State Victim Advocate Advisory Committee and  former State Senator Len Suzio to discuss the outrageous number of murders committed in Connecticut by violent prisoners who were released under the state’s Early Release program.

If you are a resident of Connecticut, you can sign the petition to end this program here.

Hour 1:

Hour 2:

In the 3rd hour, we did a compressed, one-hour version of Special Edition Saturday, as a preview of the upcoming season, which begins on September 12.  Unfortunately, due to an as yet to be determined glitch, that hour did not get recorded.

See you on the 12th!

Special Edition Saturday – March 28, 2015

Ben and Steve are joined by Tom by phone again, as we kick off another great episode of SES!

Usual stuff in the first hour, before we are joined by Joe Brennan, the President and CEO of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association to discuss this article.

We really need some new ideas here in this state, because what cannot continue will not continue. And we are not heading in a very good direction.

We then close it out, as always, with the ever-popular Drink of the Week.
