Special Edition Saturday – October 8, 2016

peoples-republic

Fast-paced and action packed, today’s show does not disappoint.  Of course, our guest, Kurt Schlichter, may have had something to do with that

Kurt has joined us in the past and is always a fun interview.  He’s a retired US Army colonel who now practices law in California. He also is a columnist for Townhall.com and appears on many of major news channels frequently.

Kurt can now add fiction writer to his CV.  We spoke with Kurt about his new e-book People’s Republic, available on Amazon.  It’s a great read about a post-apocalyptic future where the US splits into two, with the progressive left getting the coasts and the conservative right retaining “fly-over” country.

Another fun show.  Great topics and a great guest, plus MJ’s drink.

You definitely want to listen to this one.

Our guest this week is Steve Nathanson, founder of  SameThatTune.com.  Same that Tune is a website that chronicles similarities between songs.  Really interesting conversation and I was amazed at just how many times this has happened!

Another spirited show, with the usual suspects and our guest, attorney and conservative writer Gabriel Malor from the Federalist and National Review Online, among many other sites and publications.

Gabe joins us to discuss the impact of President Obama’s nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, Merritt Garland, in light of the Senate and House Republican leaders’ refusal to consider any of Obama’s nominees during his last year as President.

Oh, and check out the “blue” shirt:

Wow. What a show! Guests, theater reviews, great calls, more guests, MJ’s awesome Drink of the week….. and Tom.

Excellent discussion in the second hour with Bryan Stascavage, the author of this article from the Wesleyan Argus, and the backlash he and the paper received over it from the Wesleyan University student body.

Great opinion piece and a great example of the lack of tolerance for opposing points of view that is running rampant on today’s college campuses.

We also spoke with Brent Cochran of the Drift Compatible Podcast about his experience at the RedState meeting from which Donald Trump was unceremoniously dis-invited after acting like an ass towards Meghan Kelly on CNN.  (Language warning on Brent’s podcasts.  Luckily he cleaned it up for real radio.)

This week’s drink: Stone Wall

• One 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
• 1 1/2 teaspoons simple syrup
• 1 1/2 ounces aged rum
• 1 1/2 ounces apple cider
• Ice
• 1 1/2 ounces chilled ginger beer
• 1 lime wedge
• 1 slice of apple

Instructions:

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the ginger with the simple syrup. Add the rum and cider; fill the shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and top with the ginger beer. Garnish with the lime wedge and apple slice.

Today’s show comes with a TRIGGER WARNING!!!!

https://i1.wp.com/freethoughtblogs.com/ashleymiller/files/2014/01/triggerwarning.png

Be careful, you may not be treated with extra-soft kid gloves by the host of today’s show. Avoid listening to today’s show if you are easily offended by hearing points of view with which you may not agree.  Do not listen if you find the truth to be “discomforting, embarrassing, flirtatious, gender specific, inappropriate, inconsiderate, harassing, intimidating, offensive, ridiculing or a threat to your “self-esteem.””

I spent a lot of time on a single subject today, the current trend, both on-campus and off, to undermine freedom of speech and stifle debate. This is an insidious tactic used by many people to avoid having their opinions and theories be subject to scrutiny. Better to just not allow certain types of speech to be heard in the first place. And, not surprisingly, this most often seems to be coming more and more from the Party of Tolerance™.

It is to laugh.  The so-called open-minded, self-appointed “Speakers of Truth to Power” lately seem to be the first ones calling for the suppression of dissenting speech in nearly every single arena, be it education, politics or science.  Gee, I’m so old that I remember when dissent was patriotic.  Not anymore, I guess.

In between rants, I took time out to speak with Ben Mills of Transform Computer Repair and Dave from Ann’s Deli.

And then closed out with the Drink of the Week with my Personal Mixologist, MJ!
